Corne’s side of the story

For a while now I have been planning my proposal to Lara. I have to tell you woman have it easy! The proposal has been the only thing I could think about for a long time and all the little ideas ran through my head nonstop!

Well like Tony Hoffer said in his blog It all started back in February when we started chatting about the proposal shoot in New York. I was happy, he was happy and so was his wife, Amy and everyone kept the secret really well including all the family. It was the hardest thing ever to keep from my best friend, Lara, now my Fiance. Tony and I spoke on Skype a week before Lara and I went to America just to finalize everything. I saw this bridge in movies a few times in the past so I searched it online.

The day came pretty quick and I thought how am I going to get Lara to this bridge without being very suspicious. I told her we were going for dinner on the east side of Central Park so we had to walk through Central Park to get there and what do you know? The bridge was on our path to the “restaurant”. First of all I took the Polaroid camera and my Canon 5D with so that we could take some snaps on the way. I also brought with my tripod! How suspicious! I never took it anywhere. We entered Central Park from Columbus Circle (South-West Corner) and made our way through. I was so nervous that we got lost! My mind went blank so many times and suddenly I saw the bridge. I told Tony that we would be coming from the east side and here we were coming from the west. Again my mind went blank and my mouth so dry that I could not speak. By this time Lara probably thought I was acting very strange. I came up with a story “I can’t hold it in any longer, I booked us a nice restaurant but we are an hour too early.” This gave me a good reason to act weird…. :-S I saw Tony and nodded at him.

This day was the hottest day in New York. It was something crazy like 120 Degrees Fahrenheit or something. We stopped on the bridge and again my mind went blank. I told Lara to go stand over on the ledge while I set up the 5D to get a “self-timer” shot but instead put it on as a video camera. I rigged myself up with a lapel mic to my iPhone to get some sound going, grabbed the little box with the ring in it and walked over to her and asked her to marry me. Really easy right? Wrong, I fiddled with the microphone, I couldn’t get it stuck to my shirt. I was sweating like crazy. I have to focus the 5D and get the right f-stop so that I am sure everything will be in focus incase we move. I almost forgot the little box which was underneath another lens in a lens bag. It was so fun all of this, it actually just makes me smile. So when I finally rigged the mic up, focused the video camera, waited for people to get out of the way I walked over to Lara with the box behind my back. She asked “what do you have behind your back”. Now the next thing I had to do was ask the magic question. I rehearsed it a million times in my head and still forgot it. Doesn’t really matter because she said “yes” after all ;-)

It was such a fantastic day yet it felt so unreal. I am so glad that Tony and his Wife, Amy, captured the following photographs. They will genuinely be with us forever and we will never forget this magical day.

Thank you for all the comments on Facebook guys, we really appreciate it.

Lara’s side of the story

On our second night in the amazing city of New York Corne decided that we should go out to a nice restaurant for dinner. We got ready and started walking in the direction of the “restaurant” through Central Park. It was a super super hot and humid day in New York. Corne started acting quite suspiciously once we were in Central Park. He was very distracted and I didn’t understand why at the time, but he just had so much on his mind! We got a little lost then started walking towards the bridge. We were getting some great touristy photos when Corne said he wanted to get a photo of the both of us on the bridge. It was a great spot with a beautiful view of the city in the background. I was standing on the bridge waiting for him to set up and when he walked over to me he took my hand and proposed!

I had no idea what the day had in store! Corne pointed out Tony and Amy Hoffer who were taking photos the entire time! I had always said to Corne what an awesome idea a proposal shoot was after I saw the proposal shoot on their blog. Still in shock, we then did an engagement shoot! We were soo lucky to have Tony and Amy shoot and share in this special day, They were just awesome! and (as is evident below ;) so are the photos!

I still can’t believe everything Corne did to plan this amazing day! I’m truly the luckiest girl on the planet! It was a day we will never forget!

The Proposal

Here I started setting up the video, I struggled to focus the lens, It wasn't any lens, I chose a Tilt Shift lens… Little did I know – Corne
